Signs It’s Time to Upgrade Your Storage Tank

- 12:11 pm - October 11th, 2017

Your storage tank is what enables your heating system to function, as the tank stores the Bioheat® fuel that keeps your heating equipment running. While storage tanks are very safe and can last for decades, homeowners should keep an eye out for signs of potential issues:

  • Age – Your storage tank will give you many trouble-free years. However, it can weaken over time. Its protective tubing might wear down, its legs might become bent or cracked, or its pipes might clog.
  • Visible Damage – If you notice rust, peeling paint, chips, cracks, dents, scrapes or any other damage to the tank’s exterior, contact your fuel dealer. Most issues will be superficial, but it’s always good to check.
  • Interior Corrosions – More often than not, any issues in your storage tank will begin on the inside, as moisture, sediments and sludge collect at the bottom. The buildup can corrode the tank, which could cause small fissures and fuel releases that can result in property damage if not detected and dealt with quickly.

If you have any concerns about your storage tank or heating system, your first call should be to your trusted fuel dealer. They can assess your tank inside and out to let you know if it’s time for a new one.

Modern storage tanks are durable, safe and manufactured to the highest standards. They are green, resistant to rust and corrosion, and many models have double walls or other containment systems. Plus, through the Upgrade & Save New York City Rebate Program, you can receive $200 for installing a new aboveground storage tank to replace your existing one! It may just be time to upgrade to a modern storage tank. Call your local Bioheat® fuel dealer to learn more.
