We are all residents of Planet Earth

earth Whether you live in The Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens or Staten Island, everyone in New York City lives at one address: Planet Earth. The earth is filled with all kinds of precious resources - oceans, lakes, rivers, forests, mountains, and all kinds of living creatures that inhabit them. As residents of Planet Earth, we want to do whatever we can to keep it beautiful. Recycling trash, walking or taking the subway instead of driving, and using a cloth bag to carry groceries home are all ways to help keep the earth beautiful.

One important way to be kind to the earth is to use less energy. All of us use energy every day - for heating and cooling homes, lighting, manufacturing and entertainment. The choices we make about how we use energy have an effect on the earth and our lives.

Using less energy is called conservation, and using energy more wisely is called efficiency. Energy conservation is anything we do to use less energy, such as turning off the lights when you leave a room or recycling newspapers. Energy efficiency is using technology that requires less energy to perform the same function - for example, replacing an incandescent light bulb with a compact fluorescent light bulb (CFL), or replacing or upgrading your home's boiler or furnace with one that use less energy.
